Thanks for the help... Lol... Desperation is the mother of invention so I get creative with what little I have to work with... mostly hairdos... I did an epic one yesterday but I had no where to go... *sigh* Lol...any advice on making cool acessorys with practially nothing? everything I try is obviously homemade... actually never mind I dont want to be a bother... Ignore me... Lol
Oh, sure! Making stuff out of whatever-is-available is my specialty. I tend to cut straps, buckles and the like off of shoes, bags and similar stuff I find in the trash - quite often a perfectly good strap with buckle, eyelets and everything comes off in one piece, ready to be sown (or screwed, or riveted, whatever you have at hand) onto practically anything else. Like the sleeves of a shirt, cut off and turned into armwarmers (if they're too wide, take them in on the outside, then cut the excess fabric to pointy shreds - this gives a neat ragged effect that doesn't affect the wearability of the object). Any belt can become a bracelet or a collar - often more than one, if you've got a spare buckle - and decorated with whatever you think looks nice on it.
Homemade's not a bad thing; frankly, I find commercial subcultural clothes rather boring, not to mention antithetical to the counterculture spirit. Just get in the habit of picking up anything that's free and has anything about it that you like, then break it up for parts and apply as you see fit, even if it was never made to be worn. Especially if it was never made to be worn.
It may help to carry a pocket knife with a screwdriver if you can find it.
Thanks for the help... Im the same way bout clothes... the whole point it to be unique and yet here they have these massed produced clothes... its like the line from the Emo song You would be nonconforming too if you looked just like me... one word-ICK!... I try to remember what I like about clothes or styles I have seen and then make them my own... like the time I saw this preppy skirt that had a chain belt... I bought the skirt took off the belt for a necklace and gave the skirt to good will... Lol... part of it is that I dont have the funds to buy what I like so Im on the look out for ways to improve what I do have... thanks for taking the time to answer... I really appreciate the help... Keep up the awesomeness! Lol
Some are made, some just heavily modified... the difference gets lost when you work with scavenged materials. I'm not sure it would work for large scale production; I rarely have the parts (or patience) to make the same thing twice.
